Way Wang (王創緯) is a director and cinematographer and the founder of HiKARI, a Taipei studio. Nineteen years across stills and motion. In recent years: full-crew shoots for Warner Music Taiwan, from music videos to behind-the-scenes and concert coverage, plus brand films. Since 2026, AI is part of the workflow. Missing shots get filled in, previz lets everyone see the film before the shoot day, and projects with no talent or shooting budget can be made entirely with AI to a festival-ready standard. The problem

A goth metal track whose lyrics are the Great Compassion Mantra in pinyin. No artist, no budget for sets. A full music video about the six realms of rebirth, with the band inside every one of them.

Judgement calls

No human faces. Faces and hands are where AI breaks first, so the whole film is liquid metal and light. The drummer always grew an extra arm, so drummer shots were dropped for hand close-ups. 57 rejected takes are kept, each with the reason it was cut.

What the client gets

A finished 3:15 music video in 2.35:1. No shooting budget, and still a film that can go to festivals. Texture and light are where AI is steadier than live actors.

Way Wang 王創緯

Director, cinematographer. Founder of HiKARI. Taipei.

Nineteen years in stills and motion. Started in wedding photography, then studio work, magazine and editorial photography, splitting time between Taipei and Shanghai. The work covers advertising, editorial portraits, fashion, beauty and celebrities.

In recent years the focus moved to motion: music videos, concerts, behind-the-scenes documentaries and brand films, directing, shooting and editing, with a full crew on music videos. Since 2026 AI has been part of the workflow, both alongside live action and on its own. The rules are still the rules of filmmaking: screen direction, continuity, the physics of light.
